And what better way for him to make his return than wearing a Gilas Pilipinas jersey as he made his national team debut on Monday in its 84-46 romp over Saudi Arabia in the 2023 Fiba World Cup Asian qualifiers? In the game, Gilas Pilipinas defeated Saudi Arabia in the 2023 Fiba World Cup Asian qualifiers.
Dwight argues that the Gilas lineup simply requires “minimal tweaks” in order to compete in the World Cup.
Despite not scoring a point, Adams was able to pull down five rebounds and have one steal in his 11 minutes of action during the rout. The Filipino-American striker was absolutely ecstatic as he experienced the pulsating enthusiasm inside the packed Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, which was his very first game in the Pasay venue.
Adams remarked, with a broad grin on his face, “Man, the excitement in this place,” as he took in the 19,829 supporters of the national team who had made their way to the arena to cheer them on.
“On the court, there were unquestionably six members of our team. The enthusiasm, like I said, is tremendous.”
After taking a chance on himself and trying out for the team, Adams was overcome with emotion on the night that he finally got to don the national tri-colors. Adams described the experience as “a dream come true for my family.”
He remarked, “Just playing in front of the people and having that shirt on me is giving me a lot of nervousness and excitement.” “I have so much jitters and excitement,” he said.
“I have always had the desire to be a flag bearer. I simply took a chance and came out here, where I competed against other players in a pool of 24, and I worked hard enough to just make it into the top 13. The value of a job well done cannot be overstated. If the opportunity presented itself, I would do it over and over again without hesitation.”
As Adams continues to consider his options for the future, all he can do is focus on the present moment.
As he revealed that conversations are still ongoing between him and his former club, a potential return to Terrafirma is still not out of the question at this time. He also joked that the possibility of playing in the PBA is still present.
He also revealed that there are currently no overseas offers on the table for him as he keeps his options open; nevertheless, representing Gilas after getting this first game under his belt is at the top of his to-do list after getting this first game under his belt.
“Like I said, I’m just keeping it open,” he remarked. “My primary concentration right now is on Gilas. I’m crossing my fingers that they’ll want me back for the subsequent window, but we’ll have to see. We’ll have a conversation about it, and then we’ll wait to see what unfolds over the following few months. But as far as my next step is concerned, I’m currently open to any and all possibilities.”
